This year Artarama will be held rain or shine July 19th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Riverside Park in beautiful Eagle River. There will be a gathering of 125 vendors who will show and sell their artwork from a variety of different media including pottery, wood, glass, jewelry, painting, mixed media, fiber, glass, metal, photography and sculpture. Two judges will select 4 Awards of Excellence totaling $800 and 4 Honorable Mention Ribbons. HISTORY It was in 1972 that five community-minded people gathered together and imagined the possibility of organizing an art show in Eagle River, WI. Those five people were Donna Schwartz. Mary Ann Hansen, Marion Raasch, Russ Holperin, and Wendy Christian. The original committee formulated a plan to bring culture and creativity to the Northwoods area, and in the process, generate funds that could be returned to the community as charitable donations. They decided to call the show Artarama. From that core group grew what has become one of the Midwest’s most prestigious art and crafts shows. Now 36 years later the tradition continues. |
